The Storage Barn chain of self storage facilities is proud to be a veteran and woman-owned local company. Twenty-three years ago, Mark Phillips and Jessica Smith created Eagle Storage on what everyone thought was a swamp on Route 155 in Dover. They grew this fledgling business to five storage sites built and two more sites approved across southern New Hampshire, creating the 105th largest self storage chain in America which they sold in 2005 to Platinum Storage, based in California, the 16th largest chain in 2005.
In 2014, after waiting out the painful real estate “Great Recession” they received approval for the largest self storage facility in Strafford County and bought 27 acres on the north side of Dover opposite Liberty Mutual Insurance at 385 Sixth Street to build up to 140,000 square feet of storage.
By listening to their customers' needs, they experimented with wider and taller doors, larger units, climate control units, and electrical outlets specifically designed for contractors and trickle charging RV’s for owners of “big boy toys”. They expanded their footprint to Newington, Epping, and Hillsboro, NH while obtaining approvals to build new facilities in Tilton and Rochester, NH.
We run our operation with our friendly, helpful staff from our big red barn in Dover, NH, open M-F from 9AM until 5PM. We encourage convenient online transactions and offer on-site kiosks that can handle leasing a unit, payments via credit card, check or cash, and can even dispense locks like a Coke machine.
After having permitted and/or built more conventional single-story drive-up self storage than anyone else in the Granite State in the past 20 years, we are still learning from you, the customer, and we will do anything we can to make your storage experience a meaningful and happy event

In 2018 we began construction of our third location in Newington, just steps from Portsmouth, NH.
That project was completed in 2020 and added an additional 50,000 SF of state-of-the-art storage units.
Locations four and five were added to the portfolio in 2019 when we built climate control units in the Hillsborough Shopping Plaza and purchased an existing neighboring facility made up of ground-level drive-up non-climate control units a half a mile down the street.
The Hillsboro location completed our current portfolio of storage, adding an additional 30,000 SF of storage units.
We are not sure what is in store for the future of The Storage Barn, but we do have some options for expansion.
